Hello everyone.
Welcome to this week's edition of Monday Man.
Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to watch Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married.
Not only was this a strong, intelligent comedy/drama, it also starred an incredible cast.
In a perfect world this film would have been the It Hollywood movie had it's stars been of the caucasian persuasion. No I'm not hating on white people, I'm merely stating a point.
Race issues aside this film centers on a group of well-educated black couples who go on a weekend retreat. Singer Jill Scott plays the low self-esteem wife of a self-absorbed asshole, who not only makes her drive up the snowy mountain alone, he also brings his side-line ho along for the weekend.
While trying her best to make it to the house filled with Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba, and Tyler Perry, Sheila (Scott) befriends Sheriff Troy, played by the beautiful Lamman Rucker.
Rucker's role isn't large, however, he makes due with what he's given. In each scene Rucker is able to make his character a real person. He's sensitive, thoughtful, and intelligent. Not the stereotypical black man usually portrayed on the silver screen.
Between Perry's wonderful script and Rucker's natural talent, you're sure to enjoy the universal issues all married couples face with a good laugh and cry.
That's all for this week. Have a pleasant Monday!
